Technology has opened new possibilities for fashion brands, enabling designers to incorporate new features in their apparel and accessories. Goodvine Pte Ltd (Goodvine), a local manufacturer of leather products marketed under the brand name Tocco Toscano, was interested to work with a Singapore-based technology partner to integrate wearable technologies into its new line of bags.
Through IPI, Goodvine was introduced to We Are Perspective (WAP), a Singapore-based industrial design consultancy firm that had the experience of developing a wireless security solution fitting Goodvine’s requirements. Recognising the synergy in a partnership, both parties embarked on product development to integrate security features like a biometric lock mechanism and proximity sensors since February 2017. Goodvine was also granted the Capability Development Grant (CDG)[1] from SPRING Singapore (now Enterprise Singapore) to work on this technology integration.
“Goodvine is thrilled to be able to successfully blend technology and craftsmanship and create a new product line by working with the right technology partner introduced by IPI. With this new series of bags slated for launch in early 2018, we hope to offer to our customers not only aesthetics and quality, but new functional benefits as well,” said Chester Kong, Chief Strategy Officer at Goodvine.

[1] About Capability Development Grant (CDG)
The Capability Development Grand (CDG) is a financial assistance programme, under SPRING Singapore (now Enterprise Singapore), that helps SMEs to scale up businesses and build capabilities across 10 key business areas, ranging from raising service standards, adopting technology to staff training and overseas expansion. The grant supports a wide range of capability upgrading initiatives to help SMEs grow their businesses locally and globally.
In a rapidly evolving fashion industry, brands are increasingly expected to offer products that go beyond traditional aesthetics and quality. Goodvine, a local manufacturer of leather goods under the Tocco Toscano brand, recognised the growing consumer demand for smart features and enhanced security in everyday accessories. However, integrating advanced wearable technologies into classic leather bags posed significant challenges for the company. Goodvine sought to differentiate its new line of bags by embedding technology-driven functionalities such as biometric locks and proximity sensors. The company lacked in-house expertise in wearable technologies and needed a reliable technology partner to help realise this vision. Finding a partner with the right experience and technical know-how, while ensuring the seamless integration of technology without compromising on craftsmanship, was a key hurdle. Additionally, Goodvine aimed to bring these innovative products to market efficiently, requiring both technical collaboration and financial support to bridge the gap between concept and commercialisation.
IPI Singapore introduced Goodvine to We Are Perspective (WAP), a Singapore-based industrial design consultancy with a proven track record in developing wireless security solutions. By leveraging IPI’s network and technology matching capabilities, Goodvine was able to identify a partner whose expertise aligned closely with their product development goals. With IPI facilitating the collaboration, Goodvine and WAP embarked on a joint development project to integrate advanced security features, including a biometric lock mechanism and proximity sensors, into Goodvine’s new range of bags. The partnership, which began in February 2017, was further supported by the Capability Development Grant (CDG) from SPRING Singapore, enabling the teams to focus on technology integration while maintaining the brand’s signature craftsmanship. This collaborative approach ensured that the final product would offer both aesthetic appeal and enhanced functionality, positioning Goodvine at the forefront of innovation in the fashion accessories market.
