Customer insights are a way of uncovering new opportunities for businesses. Based on its customers’ feedback, Allalloy Dynaweld Pte Ltd (Allalloy), a Singapore SME providing welding solutions and consultancy services had identified a market need for better performance monitoring of its welding machines and welders. It was keen to work with suitable technology partners to co-develop an efficiency monitoring system to track the energy consumption of the welding machines as well as welders’ productivity.

Introduced to IPI by SPRING Singapore’s Marine and Offshore Industry & Enterprise Development Group (IEG), Allalloy engaged IPI to conduct a technology scan for relevant technologies and expertise. IPI subsequently facilitated discussions with shortlisted potential technology partners before a successful match was found with Temasek Polytechnic (TP). TP had previously developed a similar system and possessed the technical capability to fulfil the requirements of Allalloy.

In mid-2016, Allalloy and TP entered into a technology collaboration and worked on the development of a prototype and deployment of a test kit. The trials showed promising results and in late 2017, both parties signed a licensing agreement which allows Allalloy to commercialise the efficiency monitoring system.

“The partnership between Allalloy and TP will set the stage for the development of a new product feature in our welding machines. With this, our customers in the marine and offshore engineering, power plant and petrochemical construction industries will gain a better understanding of their equipment performance and welders’ productivity. The data collected will also help them implement the appropriate energy conservation measures. We are pleased by the positive outcome of this technology collaboration with Temasek Polytechnic and are currently looking to work with strategic manufacturing partners. We also plan to enhance this product further with apps and cloud data integration in future,” said Jason Yueh, Senior Sales Engineer of Allalloy.
