Product customisation is not a new concept for many industries, but the true challenge comes with designing and developing products that serve the real needs of today’s consumers. Modern-day consumers desire greater convenience and customisation in the products they purchase. They want products that deliver an enjoyable experience that seamlessly integrates into their lifestyles and routines.
For OSIM International, a market leader in health and wellness products, staying at the forefront of a hyper-competitive industry means driving customer-centric research and product innovation that evolves with consumer demands and technology trends.
“Over the years, we have built and strengthened our in-house team of healthy lifestyle and technical experts, and have gradually integrated their expertise with that of external partners to ensure a holistic and market leading approach. Together, we are committed to the continued application of emerging technologies to our range of products to inculcate a wellness mindset amongst individuals while addressing genuine consumer needs and concerns,” said OSIM Chief Technology Officer Tan Kia Tong.
In October 2015, OSIM expressed interest in finding a customisable stress sensor application that not only has been clinically validated but possesses the potential to be incorporated into OSIM’s well-being products for consumers ranging from business owners to homemakers. In order to reach new technology partners beyond their existing network, OSIM looked to IPI to gain access to its global innovation ecosystem.
IPI shared several technology opportunities and partners with OSIM before an electrocardiogram (ECG) sensor technology from US biometric company NeuroSky eventually matched OSIM’s requirements in February 2017.
The partnership between OSIM and NeuroSky has led to the co-development of a stress-sensing feature in the world’s first 5-senses well-being chair, the OSIM uDream. It combines the latest ECG technology and AI-powered biometric algorithm to measure the user’s physiological stress and fatigue levels in less than a minute, along with other technologies to formulate a personalised well-being experience for the user’s five senses. Through effective and reliable measurements taken through the biosensors, users will then be able to manage and monitor their stress levels through consistent use of the uDream.
Launched in September 2020, the uDream is a first-of-its-kind innovation that has revolutionised traditional approaches to massage technologies. OSIM expects this product innovation to drive further revenue growth and stay ahead in competitive local and global wellness markets.
“IPI has provided us with a multidisciplinary global network of potential partners to pursue our enduring vision of inspiring well-being and breaking new technological barriers. Throughout this journey, their support and responsiveness has accelerated OSIM’s quest to tap on new digital well-being technologies for integration into our innovations. I believe that IPI is a valuable resource for enterprises across a range of industries, and will effectively help grow our tech ecosystem in the years ahead,” said Tan.
In an increasingly competitive health and wellness industry, OSIM International faced the challenge of designing products that genuinely address the evolving needs of modern consumers. Today’s customers expect greater convenience and personalisation in their wellness products, seeking experiences that seamlessly integrate into their lifestyles. To maintain its leadership position, OSIM needed to drive innovation that not only kept pace with technology trends but also anticipated and responded to consumer demands for customisation and measurable well-being benefits. The company recognised that integrating advanced technologies, such as clinically validated stress sensors, could set its offerings apart. However, sourcing such specialised technologies and partners beyond their existing network posed a significant hurdle. In October 2015, OSIM set out to find a customisable stress sensor application that was clinically validated and suitable for integration into its product range, targeting a diverse consumer base from business owners to homemakers. The search for a reliable, innovative technology partner capable of delivering these capabilities was critical to OSIM’s vision of inspiring well-being and breaking new technological barriers.
IPI Singapore connected OSIM International to its global innovation ecosystem, enabling OSIM to access a multidisciplinary network of potential technology partners. Through IPI’s support, OSIM was introduced to several technology opportunities and partners beyond its existing reach. After evaluating various options shared by IPI, OSIM identified a strong match in an electrocardiogram (ECG) sensor technology from US biometric company NeuroSky in February 2017. This partnership, facilitated by IPI, led to the co-development of a stress-sensing feature for OSIM’s flagship product, the uDream well-being chair. The solution combined cutting-edge ECG technology and an AI-powered biometric algorithm to measure users’ physiological stress and fatigue levels in under a minute, delivering a personalised well-being experience across all five senses. IPI’s active engagement and responsiveness throughout the process accelerated OSIM’s adoption of new digital well-being technologies, helping the company integrate innovative features into its product line and maintain its competitive edge.
